Wells Moat Boat Race is held every year during the August bank holiday, on the Wells Bishop’s Palace Moat by kind permission of the Bishop of Bath and Wells.

RULES AND INFORMATION
Please read the Rules and Information page and ensure all crew understand all information below.

Disclaimer:
Please note that the City of Wells Lions Club will not be responsible for rafts made by the competitors and thereby carry no liability, especially if there is an accident due to poor construction of a raft. Additionally, all competitors compete at their own risk and the City of Wells Lions Club carries no liability if there is an injury to a third party on the water.

All junior crew members (13-17) must have parental permission and wear flotation aids in all races.

RACING CATEGORIES

  • Lion’s Cup: Open to all adult competitors. This is a new race event, the Rescue race. Four team members row down the moat, ‘Rescue’ an additional 2 team members at the duck feeding station and then row back to the finish line.

  • Bishop’s Cup: Open to all adult competitors who will race down to the turning station and back.

  • Community Challenge Cup: Open to all adult competitors who will row one length of the moat backwards

  • Adult/ Junior obstacle races: These will be open to all teams in their age groups to compete in an obstacle course to be announced on the day.

  • Junior challenge shield: Open to junior teams aged 13-17 at the time of race. This race goes to the turning circle and back.

  • Junior sprint challenge: Open to junior teams aged 13-17 and will be a sprint race in one direction of the course.

  • Junior backwards race: Open to junior teams aged 13-17 rowing one direction of the course backwards

NON–RACE CATEGORIES

  • Best raft design - open to all for the most ingeniously designed Raft. Adult and Junior categories.

  • FANCY DRESS – open to all for the best and most imaginatively dressed crew. Adult and junior categories are awarded. Please note if adults and juniors are sharing a raft only one crew can be judged.


Entries limited and close on Monday 19th August unless space permits.

Entry to the races costs £26 per team, which is non-refundable. Please read the rules page, then complete the form on the ENTRY FORM page.
Payment for your entry can be made on the PAYMENTS page.
